Before registering a work or a project with ISAN, applicants need to create an active account with one of the appointed ISAN registration agencies. ISAN registrants are free to select the agency of their choice and can change their agency later.

Once registered with an ISAN registration agency, users receive their personal credentials to the ISAN system, enabling them to search and register online whenever they need an ISAN identifier.

Registration of large numbers of works is made easy and efficient with the bulk registration service. Wether you have a large series or your entire catalogue of works to register, data can be submitted in an excel spreadsheet. Fill in the data in excel and send the file to your registration agency for registration.

The ISAN API has a registration service that enables to register ISAN records, i.e. a series, group, an episode, single work, or version: variant, manifestation, related content, related item. This registration method is useful if you wish to connect your system to the ISAN Registry and automate the issuance of ISAN codes.
